Yes, Year 11 students are welcome to join. While the Revision Course is primarily designed for Year 9 and Year 10 students preparing for their Edexcel IGCSE maths exam in May/June 2027, Year 11 students may also find the course useful depending on the topics covered each month. I recommend that Year 11 students review the topics offered before enrolling to ensure they align with their current revision needs. The topics offered in each month are shown in the monthly schedule here. This way, they can choose the months that will be most beneficial for their exam preparation.
For students who currently do not meet the grade requirement, additional support from a personal tutor is recommended. I am happy to provide this support myself if time allows or recommend other experienced tutors. Parents are welcome to enquire about these options.
For parents weighing up whether their child in Year 9 should sit the Edexcel IGCSE Maths Specification A (4MA1) exam a year early as a private candidate in Year 10, there are two important factors to keep in mind:
Academic readiness: Taking the Edexcel IGCSE maths exam early is best suited to students who are consistently achieving at the very top end of their school assessments. If your child is regularly working at Grade 8 or above, this suggests they have the depth of understanding and exam technique needed to cope with the challenge of sitting the exam ahead of schedule. Without this level of consistency, the risk is that taking the exam early could add unnecessary pressure or lead to a disappointing outcome.
Practical exam arrangements: The Edexcel IGCSE maths exam in Hong Kong is split across two papers, one taken in May and another in June. Before registering, it is important to check whether these dates overlap with school trips, internal exams or other commitments when your child is in Year 10. Even a small clash could affect your child’s preparation or ability to attend, so careful planning is essential to ensure they can give their best performance.
If you are unsure whether your child in Year 9 should take the Edexcel IGCSE maths exam early in Year 10 as a private candidate, I am happy to guide you through the options. Please feel free to reach out via WhatsApp.
